Luxurious and Fashionable Options for Modest Dressing

As modest fashion continues to gain momentum, more retailers are capitalizing on it. Some are targeting specific demographics while others provide a wide selection of styles that can be worn without additional layers for everyday wear.

One of my go-to tricks for creating an effortlessly fashionable look that's both modest and fashionable is layering. A T-shirt can be layered under any dress or skirt to provide extra coverage while still adding to the style.

1. The Modist

Modest dressing is a global cultural movement that's being increasingly celebrated by brands. From Dolce & Gabbana's own line of hijabs to models like Halima Aden walking the runway for high-end labels, there is an increasing awareness of modest style within the fashion industry.

Therefore, there are numerous websites and retail outlets tailored towards this audience. These sites typically offer a selection of modest-style clothing options such as jilbabs, kufis, long skirts and maxi dresses.

For instance, The Modist has become a mainstay of the modest clothing industry with their carefully curated selection of luxury fashion. Established in 2017, this site is headquartered in Dubai and ships to 100 countries, primarily targeting Muslim women as its primary customer base.

Ghizlan Guenez, who founded The Modist with a background in brand development, was motivated to start this venture after witnessing women around her struggle with modest clothing options. She believes there's an enormous market for modest apparel but few designers have taken advantage of it yet.

She seeks to fill this void by curating an expertly curated selection of designer pieces from renowned brands, such as Marni, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Ganni and Christopher Kane. Additionally, she wants to offer a platform that caters specifically to Muslim women's needs through fashion-forward thinking; shattering preconceived notions and shifting perceptions on what modest style looks like.

In addition to designer clothes, The Modist will also feature editorial content tailored towards fashion-forward women who embrace their modest style. This includes shoppable content, seasonal features, styling advice, moving image segments, behind the scenes excerpts and more.

The Modist will also focus on empowering women by featuring stories of strong, stylish women who inspire others with their beauty and substance. By doing this, The Modist hopes to appeal to a broad range of customers and remove obstacles to shopping for fashion-forward women who want to dress modestly.

The Modist plans to rely heavily on social media as the primary platform for dialogue about modest fashion. She sees platforms like Instagram and Facebook as democratizing this global dialogue, bringing people from various corners of the world together.

2. Everlane

Everlane is a US brand built upon the concept of "modern basics." Their collection features timeless quality pieces for men, women and children alike - with classic designs made with ethically sourced materials. As such, their clothing makes an excellent choice for those seeking sustainable investments that will last.

Michael Preysman founded this company in 2011 and since then it has grown to encompass three stores and online sales. Their clothing collection offers everything from t-shirts and jackets, as well as leather weekend bags and trainers.

Although I find some of Everlane's designs to be a bit too minimalist and basic for my taste, the brand does provide some stylish options that can complement your modest wardrobe. You'll find trendy non-denim pants such as cropped flare and streamlined tapered leg styles; plus their selection of fashionable flowy blouses and bodysuits which are both comfortable and flattering.

Though some of their items may not be the most eco-friendly, they do strive to minimize waste and reduce carbon emissions throughout their supply chain. Furthermore, they audit their suppliers regularly to guarantee they use sustainable practices.

Everlane's products are made with organic cotton, and they plan to switch all of their production and packaging materials to 100% certified organic cotton by 2023. Additionally, Everlane wants to eliminate the use of virgin plastics in both production and packaging.

One of the things I adore about Everlane is their support for ethical fashion brands. They don't hesitate to experiment with design, resulting in some amazing collaborations with emerging talent that I would love to wear!

The abaya, traditionally a black floor-length garment that covers the body, has been modernized by Everlane. Their version of the abaya is constructed out of patchwork of black fabrics with asymmetrical edges for added flair.

Abayas are an eye-catching statement piece that can add flair to any ensemble. They can even be worn as a layering piece under a blazer or cardigan for added warmth and protection from the elements.

If you're searching for a stylish yet modest option for modest dressing, HANA is an excellent option. The company collaborated with British-Japanese designer Hana Tajima to create a collection that appeals to women of all backgrounds.

The brand caters to a range of demographics with pieces suitable for religious and personal settings. For instance, a dress from their spring/summer collection would be ideal when attending a wedding or ceremony at the temple.

Moreover, the brand is known for providing budget-friendly options. Their products are crafted with superior materials and come in various sizes.

Hana Tajima's designs are both fashionable and comfortable, with an emphasis on fusing her three cultural influences. She describes her works as "an expression of aesthetic freedom and an attempt to blur the line between cultures and traditions."

Hana Tajima, a Muslim convert born in London, has always had an appreciation for art and culture. She's particularly drawn to beauty and the expressive freedom that fashion offers.

Her Uniqlo collection for Uniqlo features elegant dresses, hijab headscarves and denim pieces that can be worn to various occasions. Currently available in 15 markets globally, there's something suitable for everyone's taste.

Though some may associate modest fashion with a certain race or religion, Hana Tajima insists it's "not about an identity" and rather an expression of oneself. She notes how many women express themselves through their clothing choices.

Modestly dressed women have become a growing trend in recent years. To cater to them, several retailers have emerged. Modanisa, for instance, is one such Turkish brand that sells dresses and accessories with various colors and fabrics at moderate prices.

Other retailers offering modest options include LYRA Swim, which sells a selection of modestly-priced swimsuits in various styles. With so many colors and prints to choose from, it's easy to find something suitable for you.

4. Balenciaga

Balenciaga has revolutionized the way we dress. From oversized blazers to intarsia-knit sweaters, Creative Director Demna Gvasalia has infuse pop culture into traditional codes to create something both unique and timeless.

Women looking for modest dress codes have Balenciaga's selection of options to choose from. Their sleeveless dresses and shift skirts fit close to the body, providing comfort in your own skin made possible through different fabrics such as wool and cotton blends that add texture and comfort.

There are a few pieces that can be easily layered over one another for an effortlessly stylish ensemble. For instance, this long sleeve top worn over a long skirt looks great when paired with gray tights and vibrant fuchsia stilettos for both classic and modern flair.

Clothing from this company is made with high-quality materials, guaranteeing your new style will last. Plus, there's a complete collection of accessories to complete the look.

In addition to clothing, the company also sells shoes and handbags. It is owned by Kering, which also owns Yves Saint Laurent and Gucci.

If you're searching for a luxurious option when it comes to finding your next modest dress, Balenciaga offers some of the finest choices available. In addition to their abayas, the label also carries other clothing options perfect for modest dressing.

For instance, the brand offers skirts and pants made from recycled paperbag jeans - eco-friendly yet fashionable at the same time!

They offer a selection of dresses and jackets that are flattering for modest women to wear, such as those featuring asymmetrical hemlines, slits and ruched details.

Some of these pieces are also incredibly affordable; you can pick up a basic sleeveless dress for under $50 and an oversized coat for less than $200.

Many celebrities, such as Kim Kardashian, Rihanna and Kanye West, have become fans of Balenciaga apparel. They can often be spotted wearing their pieces during fashion shows or other special events.
